Dr Afaf El-Sagheer
Afaf did rher PhD at Southampton University with Professor John Mellor then moved back to Egypt to become Professor of Chemistry at Suez University. Afaf has been working with Prof Tom Brown in Southampton and Oxford since 2005, focusing on the applications of oligonucleotides in biology. Her current work is on the use of click chemistry to assemble novel modified DNA and RNA constructs with artificial biocompatible backbones, and on oligonucleotide-based therapeutics and gene editing.She has published mor than 100 papers. In 2023 Afaf became an Assistant Professor in CVhemistry at Southampton University and continues to collaborate with the Brown group.
